For more than 50 years, Zbigniew J. Pasek, PhD, has excelled as an educator and researcher in colleges worldwide, teaching courses in industrial engineering, service engineering, health care engineering, manufacturing automation, and product development. Born and raised in Warsaw, Poland, he earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology in 1978 and subsequently spent nine years as an assistant professor at Politechnika Warszawska, or the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1987, he relocated to the United States, where he completed mechanical engineering coursework at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was active as a research and teaching assistant and then an associate research scientist at the University of Michigan between 1987 and 2005. Here, he furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Science in Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

From there, Dr. Pasek served as an associate professor at the University of Windsor from 2005 to 2014, and has been a full professor at the institution since 2014. Here, he successfully implemented undergraduate courses focused on consumer product development, encompassing design, manufacturing, and business aspects. In the midst of that position, he lent his expertise as a visiting professor at the Poznan University of Technology in Poland from 2008 to 2021 and has contributed articles and chapters to numerous professional journals. He considers his most notable achievements to lie in his previous extensive research on traditional manufacturing engineering, which involved developing prototype machines at an engineering center in Michigan. In addition, he made significant contributions in the realm of integrating manufacturing and financial engineering.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Pasek has been an active member of the ASCE, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and actively participated in their conferences—through which he has developed educational materials based on feature films that highlight the engineering experiences of managers.

Zbigniew J. Pasek, PhD has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A native of Warsaw, Poland, Dr. Pasek graduated from Romuald Traugutt Highschool Number 45 before pursuing higher education at the Warsaw University of Technology, from which he earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1978. Soon thereafter, he began his career as an assistant professor with the Warsaw University of Technology from 1978 to 1987. During this time, Dr. Pasek served in the Polish Air Force, advancing to the rank of reserve lieutenant in 1979.

Dr. Pasek continued his academic efforts with graduate-level coursework in mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987. He subsequently worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Michigan between 1987 and 1993. He was additionally active as a research associate with Federal-Mogul in 1989. Likewise, Dr. Pasek further built upon his impressive professional portfolio with a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1989.

In 1993, Dr. Pasek concluded his formal studies at the University of Michigan, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering. He found further success at the University of Michigan as an associate research scientist from 1993 to 2005. As a testament to his stellar efforts in this position, he was presented with the Outstanding Research Excellence Award from the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2002. Dr. Pasek was later recruited as an associate professor at the University of Windsor from 2005 to 2014.

Since 2014, Dr. Pasek has excelled as a professor at the University of Windsor, a role in which he teaches industrial engineering, product development, service engineering, healthcare engineering and statistics. Likewise, he collaborated with multiple hospitals in the Windsor area to supervise his graduate and doctoral-level students as they refined their skills in the field of healthcare engineering. Beyond his primary responsibilities at the University of Windsor, Dr. Pasek has also contributed to the Poznan University of Technology as a visiting professor since 2008.

To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Pasek completed the Lean LaunchPad Educators Program through the National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators Alliance, now known as VentureWell, in 2013. In 2015, he gained crucial knowledge from Disney’s Approach to Creativity and Innovation at the Disney Institute. In the years that followed, Dr. Pasek garnered a Green Belt Certificate in Quality Function Deployment from the Quality Function Deployment Institute in 2016 and his certification as a professional innovator from Competing Values LLC in 2017.

In light of his exceptional undertakings throughout almost 50 years in the classroom, Dr. Pasek was honored with the Best New Idea Award from the entrepreneurship and engineering innovation division of the American Society for Engineering Education in 2013. He was likewise distinguished as the Teaching Leadership Chair by the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Windsor in 2014. Most recently, Dr. Pasek was recognized with a Medal of Merit by the Poznan University of Technology in 2016.

Apart from his professional focus, Dr. Pasek’s side interests involved student theater productions, poster art which led to a few of his successful participations in Biennial Poster Art competitions in Warsaw and Lathi, Finland. In the 1990s, Dr. Pasek published his popular e-newletter ‘Dyrdymalki,’ for over five years, and he was also an associate editor of ‘Periphery. A Journal of Polish Affairs’. Furthermore, he has thrived as the co-founder of Ann Arbor Polish Film Festival for 30 years. In addition to these ventures, Dr. Pasek has been a steadfast initial supporter of a colleague at the University of Detroit Mercy who established a summer program for architecture students in Volterra, Italy.

Dr. Pasek has attributed his success to the opportunity to collaborate alongside visionary individuals during his tenure at the University of Michigan, where he was introduced to emerging fields and fostered connections with national foundations. Discovering unprecedented possibilities and innovative problem-solving approaches as a result of these partnerships, he subsequently enriched his expertise and perspective through international teaching appointments in Poland, Canada, and the United States. Dr. Pasek has also credited his outstanding professional achievements to his wealth of knowledge and his ability to interact effectively with others.

Among his most notable accomplishments, Dr. Pasek is particularly proud of his research on manufacturing automation, which involved developing prototype machines at an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center in Michigan, as well as his significant contributions in the realm of integrating manufacturing and financial engineering. He also fondly recalls his extensive list of publications to his credit, his chance to craft courses combining graduate-level business and engineering faculties, and implementing undergraduate courses that emphasized consumer product development by digging into elements regarding design, manufacturing, and business administration. Esteemed by his peers and students for utilizing feature film materials to enhance the learning experiences within his classroom, he has committed his attention as an educator to enlightening students about the importance of developing a diverse skill set, technical prowess and other essential abilities.
